Common mistakes

Filling out the Detroit Tigers Donation Request form can be a straightforward process, but many people stumble into common pitfalls. One major mistake is failing to include a letter on the organization’s official letterhead. This letter should detail the organization’s mission, goals, and the proposed use for the tickets. Without this important document, the request is incomplete and will not be considered.

Another frequent oversight is not submitting the required 501(c)(3) form along with the donation request. This tax-exempt identification number is crucial in demonstrating that the organization qualifies for charitable contributions. Without it, the Tigers organization cannot verify eligibility, which can lead to immediate rejection of the request.

Additionally, some applicants do not adhere to the stipulated timeline of submitting requests at least five weeks prior to the desired game date. This requirement ensures that there's enough time for processing and responding to requests. Ignoring this timeline can result in missing out on the opportunity altogether.

A common error also arises from the failure to select four game dates as alternatives. Requesting only one date may limit options for the donation, especially since tickets are subject to availability. Providing multiple choices increases the chances of securing tickets for a preferred game.

Submitting an incomplete request can be a costly mistake. All three documents—the letter, the 501(c)(3) form, and the completed donation request form—must be submitted together. If even one part is missing, the entire application will be disregarded. Applicants should double-check their submissions for completeness before sending them off.

Lastly, some organizations overlook the need to indicate whether they will provide transportation for the children attending the game. This detail is important because it helps the Tigers understand how the tickets will be utilized effectively. Failing to answer this question may raise doubts about the organization’s planning and intentions for ticket use.

Documents used along the form

When considering a donation request to the Detroit Tigers, it is important to prepare various supporting documents. These additional forms can help ensure your request is complete and in line with the organization’s requirements. Below is a list of common documents that are typically required alongside the Detroit Tigers Donation Request form.

  • Organizational Letterhead: This letter serves as a formal introduction of the requesting organization. It should detail the mission and goals, as well as the specific purpose for which the tickets will be used (e.g., a field trip for underprivileged children).
  • 501(c)(3) Status Documentation: This document verifies the organization’s tax-exempt status under IRS rules. Providing a copy of the 501(c)(3) form along with the organization’s tax identification number affirms its eligibility for donations and showcases its nonprofit stature.
  • Utilization Plan: An outline of how the tickets will be distributed and used is essential. This plan should include details about who will receive the tickets, how they will be transported to the event, and any educational or recreational activities associated with the game attendance.
  • Contact Information Form: A form capturing all pertinent contact details, including the organization’s name, address, and the designated contact person. This is important for any follow-up and ensures that the Tigers’ foundation can reach out regarding the donation request.

By preparing these documents thoroughly, your organization can enhance its chances of securing ticket donations from the Detroit Tigers. Each piece serves a critical role in demonstrating the legitimacy and intent behind the request, while affirming the organization's commitment to benefiting the community.
