PLUMBING INSPECTOR EXAMINATION – IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Minimum qualification requirements for Plumber Inspector examination:
Must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
Be currently licensed as a Master or Journeyman Plumber in the state of Texas
Hold a Master or Journeyman Plumber license in another state and pass the Texas State Board of Plumbing
Examiners’ Journeyman Plumber examination
Hold a Plumbing Inspector license in another state that has licensing requirements substantially equivalent to the licensing requirements of the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners
Be a professional engineer or professional architect licensed in the state of Texas; or
Be able to verify a total of 500 hours training or experience in the plumbing industry, which shall be credited by a combination of the following:
o 100 hours credit for successful completion of a plumbing related certification issued by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) or the International Code Council (ICC).
o 100 hours credit for successful completion of a Board approved Medical Gas Piping Installation Endorsement Training Program.
o 100 hours credit for successful completion of a Board approved Water Supply Protection Specialist Endorsement Training program.
o 100 hours credit for successful completion of an approved Backflow Tester Certification Program.
o 6 hours credit for successful completion of each different Board approved Continuing Professional Education for License Plumbers and Plumbing Inspectors course.
o Actual hours, with a maximum of 100 hours, credit for approved, documented and verified plumbing related training academy or educational sessions.
o Actual hours, with a maximum of 200 hours, credit for on the job work experience in the plumbing trade or approved similar plumbing related trade, as verified by former employers.
o Actual hours, with a maximum of 200 hours, credit for documented and verified on the job training in the enforcement of plumbing codes under the direct supervision of a licensed Plumbing Inspector
Must have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). A copy of the diploma or GED must be submitted with the application.
Must have proof that the applicant is a citizen or national of the United States, or an alien lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work lawfully in the United States. Proof must be provided with application.
Must submit a legible copy of current photographic identification issued by the State of Texas or another state or jurisdiction.
Must submit Plumbing Inspector Examination application and fee ($55).

Your Identity Will be Verified:
Photographic identification, such as a drivers license or state issued identification, will be required from the applicant on the day of the examination and will be verified before an examination may be given to the applicant.
Training Periods for Examination Failures: Board Rule Sec. 363.9 requires the following training periods for
any examination failure (all or part): (1) First failure: a 30-day training period, (2) Second failure: a 60-day training
period, (3) Third and subsequent failures: a 90-day training period.
